Joshua Cammidge Charged with National Security Offences Following Alleged Contact with Russian Intelligence

Joshua Cammidge, a 31-year-old British man, has been charged with national security offences under the National Security Act 2023. The charges relate to alleged contact with a representative of the GRU Volunteer Corps, a group controlled by Russia's military intelligence agency. Counter Terrorism Policing London officers, supported by Wiltshire Police, arrested Cammidge at an address in Swindon on Friday, September 4. Following searches at a different Swindon address and further detention on Saturday, September 5, Cammidge was charged with assisting a foreign intelligence service and preparatory conduct. Frank Ferguson, chief crown prosecutor for the CPS's Special Crime and Counter Terrorism Division, stated that the Crown Prosecution Service established sufficient evidence to bring the case to court and that it is in the public interest to pursue criminal proceedings. Ferguson requested that there be no reporting or commentary that could prejudice the active proceedings. Cammidge is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday, September 10.
