Joshua Cammidge Charged with Assisting Russian Intelligence and Preparing for Sabotage in UK Drone Factories

Joshua Cammidge, a 31-year-old man from Swindon, has been charged with assisting a foreign intelligence service and engaging in preparatory conduct under the National Security Act 2023. The charges stem from his alleged contact with an individual linked to the GRU Volunteer Corps, a group controlled by Russia's military intelligence agency. Between March and September of this year, Cammidge allegedly provided Google Maps screenshots identifying four drone manufacturing sites in Swindon and offered to carry out an act of sabotage. He also researched a device to jam Wi-Fi signals and conducted personal reconnaissance of the sites. Cammidge was arrested in Swindon by Counter Terrorism Policing London officers and Wiltshire Police. He appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court, where he made no plea and was remanded in custody. The case has been sent to London's Old Bailey, where he will next appear on September 25. Frank Ferguson, Chief Crown Prosecutor for the CPS Special Crime and Counter Terrorism Division, stated that the prosecution has established sufficient evidence to bring the case to court. Security Minister Dan Jarvis expressed appreciation for the police work in identifying the potential threat.
