Spain's 'Wolf Boy' Marcos Rodríguez Pantoja Dies at Age 80

Marcos Rodríguez Pantoja, the famous Spanish 'wolf boy' who spent over a decade living in the wilderness, died on August 16, 2026, at the age of 80. Born in 1946, Rodríguez Pantoja was sold by his father to a goatherd in the Sierra Morena mountains at age seven. After the goatherd's sudden death, he spent approximately 12 years living in isolation, developing a symbiotic relationship with a wolf pack that he considered his family. He was eventually discovered by the Civil Guard in 1965 at the age of 19. His reintegration into human society was a lengthy process involving care from priests and nuns, who helped him relearn speech and social customs. In his later years, he lived in the village of Rante and dedicated himself to sharing his story to promote nature conservation. His life was documented in the book 'I played with Wolves' and the film 'Among Wolves.'
