The Plaskett Fire, active since August 26, has burned more than 15,000 acres. Both fires have led to evacuation orders and warnings. Winds have pushed smoke from these fires inland and down the coast toward San Luis Obispo County and Santa Barbara County. This smoke has caused air quality levels to fall into the moderate range across the Central Coast. Residents in areas along or east of the Highway 49 corridor are advised to keep their windows closed. People who are unusually sensitive to poor air conditions, such as those with heart and lung diseases, the very young, and the very old, are advised to limit their time outside. Fine particles in the wildfire smoke can be especially harmful to these individuals.
