Rontonio M. Guterz Died After Being Shot During a Mass Shooting in Chicago's Washington Park

Rontonio M. Guterz, a 35-year-old local resident, was pronounced dead after being shot during a mass shooting in Washington Park on the city's South Side. The incident occurred at approximately 11:37 p.m. on Saturday night while police were attempting to disperse a large gathering in the 5400 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue. Gunfire erupted from unknown gunmen, striking 15 people in the crowd. While Guterz was the only fatality, 14 other victims were treated for gunshot wounds. Police reported that no officers were injured during the incident, and the arrests have not yet been made. The motive for the shooting remains under investigation. Cook County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information that could help identify the suspects. Mayor Brandon Johnson stated that the administration would continue efforts to remove illegal weapons from the streets of Chicago to curb gun violence.
