Seven people were arrested following a massive brawl during the final hours of the Wisconsin State Fair.
Wisconsin State Fair Park officials confirmed that seven people were arrested following a mass brawl that erupted during the final hours of the annual event on Sunday, Aug. 16. The disturbance involved multiple groups of people fighting on the fairgrounds and others attempting to gain unauthorized access to the venue. While viral videos showed crowds of people running and shouting, law enforcement confirmed there were no gunshots associated with the incidents. One police officer was struck during the chaos, but no serious injuries were reported among the fairgoers. Wisconsin State Fair Park officials stated that the violence was isolated to the final hours of an otherwise safe 11-day event. They noted that enhanced security and additional law enforcement resources from Milwaukee and West Allis were utilized to respond quickly to the mayhem. Republican gubernatorial nominee Tom Tiffany seized on the footage to criticize the leadership of Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley, citing the chaos as a sign of public safety failures. Officials emphasized that the safety of guests remains their highest priority and will continue to review security plans for future events.
