Viviana Aguilar Zendejas dies after protecting her daughter from a gas explosion in Cuernavaca

Viviana Aguilar Zendejas died in Mexico City after suffering severe injuries from a gas leak explosion in Cuernavaca on August 6. The 31-year-old mother died a week after the incident, having suffered extensive burns that reached her lymphatic system. During the explosion, she acted as a human shield, wrapping her six-year-old daughter, Isabella, to protect her from the expanding wave of flames. While Viviana Aguilar Zendejas suffered significant damage, her daughter was discharged from the hospital the day before her mother's death. The General Prosecutor's Office is currently investigating the incident to determine legal responsibilities and quantify damages. The Tomza Gas Titanium company and its insurers have been urged to cover the costs for the residents of the Las Granjas colony. State authorities and the Mexican Army are providing ongoing support to the affected area, including cleaning, painting, and delivering supplies to the 30 houses damaged by the blast. A fundraising campaign has also been launched to support the funeral expenses and the care of the young survivor.
