Micron Technology CEO Sanjay Mehrotra announced that the company will invest $10 billion over the next decade to establish a new research lab in Boise, Idaho. The facility, scheduled to break ground in 2027, will focus on advancing memory technology and compute systems. This investment is part of a broader $250 billion commitment by the company to U.S. manufacturing and research through 2035, supported by CHIPS Act funds granted under the Biden administration. Sanjay Mehrotra noted that AI is reshaping the memory market, with data-center customers seeking significantly more supply than currently available. The new lab will serve as a research hub connecting Micron's global footprint across the U.S., Europe, Japan, India, Singapore, and Taiwan. Local officials, including Boise Mayor Lauren McLean, expressed optimism about the investment. McLean stated that the new research lab will provide local students with future job opportunities within the state. The city is preparing for the growth by focusing on housing development and transportation infrastructure to accommodate the influx of new residents and workers.
