Sanjay Mehrotra states that artificial intelligence has fundamentally transformed the memory industry into critical infrastructure.

Sanjay Mehrotra, CEO of Micron Technology, Inc., stated that artificial intelligence has permanently altered the memory industry's historical boom-and-bust cycles. He noted that memory is now a mission-critical component of AI infrastructure, with data-center customers currently demanding 50% more supply than the company can commit to deliver. To address this gap, Micron Technology, Inc. has signed five-year strategic agreements with more than 16 customers to lock in future demand. The administration announced a $250 billion investment in U.S. manufacturing through 2035, which includes two new fabs in Boise, Idaho. Additionally, the company unveiled a $10 billion initiative for Micron Research Labs, which was endorsed by Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Apple CEO Tim Cook. President Trump described Micron as one of the world's hottest companies, linking the investment to the booming demand for sophisticated computers. These moves signal a multi-decade bet on sustained AI-driven demand, transitioning memory from a cyclical commodity to a stable infrastructure component.
