Transport Minister Elsa Noguera suspends the operation of Logistics Support Evaluation Centers to prevent an 800,000 peso increase in driving license costs.

Transport Minister Elsa Noguera announced the suspension of the entry into operation of the Logistics Support Evaluation Centers (CALE). These centers were designed to independently verify the theoretical and practical skills of drivers seeking to obtain or new licenses or reclassifications. The suspension follows a review of the model's structure and costs, as the administration aims to avoid an unjustified additional cost of 800,000 pesos for users. Currently, a license costs approximately 1.4 million pesos, but the CALE system would have increased that price to 2.2 million pesos. Minister Elsa Noguera stated that the government will review the capacity of the centers, the contract legality with the National University Open Distance Learning (Unad) for a 20-year period, and whether the costs truly improve road safety. The decision was prompted by complaints regarding contract irregularities involving former Minister Maria Fernanda Rojas and former Vice Minister Lina Huari. The administration clarified that Law 2251 of 2022 remains in force, but the implementation of the system will be conditioned on a technical and institutional review to ensure fair pricing for citizens.
