Missouri Deputy Attorney General Shaun Mackelprang was located alive on Wednesday morning after spending six days in the rugged mountains of Wyoming's Wind River Range. Rescuers from the Sublette County Sheriff's Office and Tip Top Search and Rescue found Mackelprang near Scott Lake, where he was dehydrated and disoriented. Mackelprang began his trek from the Green River Lakes Trailhead on August 20 with the goal of reaching Gannett Peak, the state's highest point. While he successfully reached the summit and signed the register, he allegedly became disoriented during his descent due to poor weather conditions. His brother, Romel Mackelprang, noted that the family was initially not concerned until Sunday, but the search intensified as it became clear he was still missing. Search crews utilized a mix of ground teams, drones, and helicopters to locate him. Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway expressed gratitude for the rescue efforts, noting the office's appreciation for the volunteers and state leaders who assisted in the search.
