Chirantan Desai expresses disappointment over MongoDB stock decline following strong fiscal second quarter results
Chirantan "CJ" Desai, the CEO of MongoDB, expressed disappointment regarding the sharp decline in the company's stock price following the report of its fiscal second quarter results. Despite the company beating analyst expectations for adjusted earnings of $1.90 per share and reporting sales of $771 million, the stock plummeted more than 11% in after-hours and pre-market trading. Analysts noted that while MongoDB achieved 30.5% total revenue growth, investors remained cautious due to high expectations for the company's cloud software growth. The company's flagship Atlas business delivered 29% growth for five consecutive quarters, leading to concerns that the business may have reached a growth ceiling. Desai defended the 29% growth rate, stating that a growth inflection point could occur in the coming quarters as enterprise AI projects transition from experimentation to production. He also raised the full-year Atlas outlook by 300 basis points and noted that the company is positioning itself as a real-time intelligent data platform.
