Upper Pottsgrove Police Officer Sean Farrell Charged with Voluntary Manslaughter for Fatal Shooting of Glenwood Pysher IV
Upper Pottsgrove Police Cpl. Sean Farrell was charged with voluntary manslaughter on Tuesday for the fatal shooting of Glenwood Pysher IV. The 22-year-old college student was shot twice in the chest by Farrell while attempting to enter the wrong house late at night. Prosecutors stated that Pysher was not a threat and had his hands raised as he walked toward the officer. Body-camera footage shows that Farrell fired two shots before finishing a command to drop to the ground. Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele noted that Farrell had less-lethal options, such as a taser and a baton, but did not use them. The shooting occurred after Pysher mistakenly arrived at a residence on Snyder Road, believing it was a friend's home. Farrell responded to a 911 call regarding a possible break-in. While Farrell initially told a colleague that Pysher acted aggressively, the body-camera footage contradicts this account. Farrell was placed on administrative leave and remains in custody until he surrenders his personal firearms. He faces a preliminary hearing on Sept. 10.
