Vladimir Putin faces a series of major event cancellations as Ukraine intensifies drone strikes on Russian territory
Vladimir Putin has seen several major national events canceled or postponed due to escalating Ukrainian military pressure. The Spasskaya Tower International Military Music Festival, scheduled for August 2026, was postponed to 2027 by organizers citing reasons beyond their control. This decision follows a pattern of recent cancellations, including the Russia Day concert on Red Square and the Navy Day parade in St. Petersburg. These interruptions are largely attributed to intensified Ukrainian drone strikes. Moscow regional governor Andrey Vorobyov reported a massive drone attack on Sunday, where over 600 drones were launched at Moscow, resulting in at least seven people being killed. Additionally, the Dronnitsa combat drone convention in Veliky Novgorod was scrapped for this year, as organizers feared exposing key factories and bases to potential Ukrainian ballistic missiles and "terrorist bio-drones." The flurry of cancellations has eroded the projection of calm from the Kremlin, forcing the administration to adjust its public schedule to mitigate risks during the ongoing conflict.
