Kenya Glasgow, a 31-year-old public health professional, and her two-year-old daughter Kennedi were killed by a lightning strike in Margate, near Fort Lauderdale, on Sunday. The victims were found lying on a sidewalk next to a car while getting out of the vehicle in front of a family member's home. Margate Police and fire rescue crews arrived on the scene and performed CPR, but both victims were pronounced dead shortly after arriving at their respective hospitals. Kameron Glasgow, the father, described the tragedy as a devastating loss, noting that his wife was a woman with a large heart and his daughter was an amazing singer. Meteorologists noted that weather conditions deteriorated rapidly, with a thunderstorm developing over Margate within 15 minutes. Experts noted that while direct lightning strikes are rare, they are often not survivable. The incident serves as a reminder that lightning can strike up to 10 miles outside of a primary thunderstorm.
