Protests at Universidad Distrital Macarena Cause Traffic Delays and Detours in Bogotá

A demonstration at the Universidad Distrital Macarena campus on Avenida Circunvalar with Street 26B caused significant traffic congestion and required road diversions in Bogotá on September 3, 2026. The Secretariat of Distrital Mobility reported that a guide group and civil traffic agents are supporting the road closures and managing vehicle flow in the sector. To mitigate the impact of the protest, authorities recommended that drivers use alternative routes, including El Dorado Avenue, Seventh Avenue, and the NQS. These alternative routes may experience increased traffic flow as citizens navigate around the protest area. The demonstration affected approximately 3,137 users of the TransMiZonal bus system, leading to the cancellation and detour of several routes. The District Secretariat of Government noted that teams of dialogue managers and human rights managers are accompanying the activities to ensure peaceful protest and promote civic dialogue in public spaces.
