The District Mobility Secretariat (SDM) established a new traffic schedule for private vehicles in Bogota for the week of August 18 to 23, 2026. The measure, known as 'peak and placa,' aims to reduce congestion on major highways during peak hours. Drivers must adhere to the restrictions from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on weekdays, excluding holidays and Saturdays. Vehicles that do not comply with the election of the restriction will face a fine of $875,445, which is equivalent to 15 minimum daily wages. To facilitate traffic flow, the District will implement a reversible section on Seventh Avenue and semi-automatic traffic control on the South Highway. A regional toll will also be apply to all vehicles entering the city through nine authorized corridors. Travelers are encouraged to recommend programming their return trips in advance and checking the vehicle's technical-mechanical state before departing.
