MTA Crews Perform Urgent Repairs on A, B, C, and D Train Lines Following Trackbed Cracks
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) reported that service on the A, B, C, and D train lines in Upper Manhattan was disrupted on Monday morning due to cracks discovered underneath the trackbed at 81st Street and Central Park West. The cracks were identified during planned weekend track work, which required crews to perform significant shoring and demolition to replace the tracks. While temporary maintenance was performed Sunday night and Monday morning, the MTA stated that permanent repairs are scheduled for a later date. Because of the repairs, there was no downtown local service from 125th Street to 59th Street-Columbus Circle. Downtown B and C trains ran express, skipping all local stops in the downtown direction. Uptown service on the A, B, C, and D lines ran with delays. The MTA recommended that commuters consider using the 1, 2, and 3 trains as an alternative and allow for extra travel time.
