The Meteosat Third Generation Imager2 satellite is scheduled to lift off from Europe’s Spaceport in French Guiana on Thursday, August 27, at 22:10 CEST. This mission marks the completion of the first family of Meteosat Third Generation satellites, which will provide high-resolution weather forecasting data for Europe and northern Africa. The satellite features a Lightning Imager and a Flexible Combined Imager, capable of scanning Europe and North Africa every 2.5 minutes to provide timely warnings for severe weather events like thunderstorms and heavy rain. The launch represents the ninth flight for the Ariane 6 heavy-lift rocket. Configured with two P120C-based solid-propellant rocket motors, the Ariane 6 will carry the Meteosat Third Generation Imager2 satellite to a geostationary transfer orbit. This is the first mission to this destination for the Ariane 6 and the farthest the rocket has flown to date. The European Space Agency manages the development of the Ariane 6 program to ensure autonomous space access for European citizens.
