Alan Michael Smith Killed Eight Family Members During Montana Mass Shooting and House Fire
Alan Michael Smith, 44, was identified as the suspect in a mass shooting that left eight people dead at a home outside of Billings, Montana. The suspect, who had recently been asked to move out of the residence by his parents, returned to the home on Sunday evening and opened fire on his relatives. The victims included his parents, Dana Smith and Barbara Smith, his grandmother, Evelyn Smith, his sister, Megan Ghekiere, and four children: Landon Ghekiere, Charlotte Ghekiere, Chloe Ireland, and Owen Ireland. Interim Yellowstone County Sheriff Kent O'Donnell reported that the shooting occurred during a family dinner. The 12-year-old Charlotte Ghekiere was hailed as a hero by neighbors for calling 911 during the chaos. Following the gunfire, the home was engulfed in flames, which delayed the arrival of firefighters until the site was secure. The investigation remains ongoing, and several online memorial funds have been established to help the family with funeral expenses and the emotional weight of the tragedy.
