The Council on American-Islamic Relations-NJ released a new educational resource guide for the 2026-2027 school year that attributes the September 11 attacks to the United States' support of Israel. The guide, developed in partnership with Teaching While Muslim, suggests that the attacks were launched in response to American military presence in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf War. However, the administration announced that the document was quickly removed after being identified as containing several inaccuracies. Critics noted that while the 9/11 Commission Report identifies US support for Israel as a grievance, it does not explicitly state that the attacks were a direct response to it. The guide also avoided using the term 'terrorism' to describe the 9/11 attacks, instead noting that American Muslims and Islamic scholars condemned the organization. Senator Tom Cotton expressed concern over the organization's influence, noting that CAIR has deep ties to pro-Hamas organizations. Cotton argued that the organization should not have such significant influence over K-12 education due to its pro-terrorist, anti-Israel rhetoric.
