NATO Scrambles Fighter Jets to Intercept Drones Entering Estonian and Latvian Airspace

NATO fighter jets were scrambled to intercept drones that entered the airspace of Estonia and Latvia early Tuesday morning. The drones, which were likely Ukrainian, were driven off course by electronic jamming and entered NATO territory. In Estonia, air threat alerts were issued across several counties, including Lääne-Viru and Ida-Viru, as a drone approached the northern border city of Narva before veering toward Russia. Another drone entered the southeast of the country shortly after. Turkish Air Force fighter jets stationed at Estonia's Ämari Air Base were deployed to monitor the situation. In neighboring Latvia, drones were detected in the Ludza and Alūksne regions. The Latvian National Armed Forces issued an orange warning for the Alūksne Municipality, advising residents to remain indoors and follow the "two-wall" principle. Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur stated that the drones entered the country's airspace and highlighted the importance of the incident as a sign of the war's consequences drawing closer. Pevkur noted that the territory was not affected and that NATO aircraft monitored the situation. He urged allies to demonstrate unity and distinguish between criminal offenses and military attacks.
