Correll Jermaine Deans, a 40-year-old driver, is facing multiple charges following a single-vehicle crash on NC Highway 96 near Doyle Road in Wake County. The crash occurred early Saturday morning when a 2017 Ford Escape SUV drifted left of center and struck a tree.

Five people were inside the vehicle at the time of the crash, including Deans, 35-year-old Fenesia De Andre Daniel, and three children. Miking Daniel, a 10-year-old boy, died at the scene. Fenesia Daniel, a 7-year-old, and a 4-year-old were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Troopers from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol reported that Deans left the scene after the crash. He was later located and taken to WakeMed for treatment of his injuries. Deans is currently being held at the Wake County Detention Center without bond. He faces nine charges, including a driving infraction for driving left of center on a single-lane road, and an outstanding warrant for felony heroin possession and misdemeanor drug paraphernalia in Nash County. Investigators stated that more charges are possible.
