Horizon Organic Dairy Recalls Over 53,000 Cases of 1% Chocolate Milk Due to Potential Premature Spoilage

Horizon Organic Dairy initiated a voluntary recall of 53,760 cases of its shelf-stable 1% chocolate milk on August 7. The recall affects 8-ounce cartons sold in 12-count and 18-count boxes distributed nationwide. Customers reported that the cartons appeared bloated, and the contents may have an unpleasant smell, taste, or texture. Horizon Organic Dairy stated that a seal issue could cause the milk to spoil prematurely. Kendra Harrison, the head of quality and food safety at Horizon Organic Dairy, noted that the recall is not related to an allergen, microorganism, or pathogen contamination. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration shared the alert on its website and issued an enforcement report. The company is currently investigating the cause of the issue. Consumers who purchased the affected products are urged to discard them and keep their receipts to request a refund from customer relations.
