Security camera footage reveals the catastrophic implosion of a Nippon Dynawave wood pulp mill tank that killed 11 workers.

Security camera footage released by the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office provides a visual record of the May 26 implosion at the Nippon Dynawave wood pulp mill in Longview, Washington. The 10-minute video shows a massive tank buckling and releasing hundreds of thousands of gallons of caustic white liquor across the jobsite. The incident resulted in the overall death of 11 workers, with nine victims retrieved by first responders over five days and two others dying at local hospitals. Autopsies conducted by the Cowlitz County Coroner’s Office and the Multnomah County Medical Examiner’s Office identified severe chemical burns as a significant factor in the deaths. While the exact cause of the incident remains under investigation by several state and federal agencies, Nippon officials notified regulators on Monday that they plan to install temporary storage tanks to restart operations at the plant.
