President Bola Tinubu orders arrest of George Buchi Nwabueze after investigation reveals fake government agency

President Bola Tinubu has ordered the arrest of George Buchi Nwabueze, the man accused of creating and running a fake government agency for years without official authorization. The National Brands Development and Made-in-Nigeria Special Project Office, which Nwabueze allegedly operated under multiple aliases, was discovered by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) during a broader probe into procedural weaknesses in the public service. Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, Chairman of the ICPC, reported that the agency had illegally occupied office space within the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) despite lacking presidential approval. While Nwabueze claims the office existed for 16 years and possessed formal appointment letters, the administration announced the suspension of three permanent secretaries pending further investigation. The discovery follows a previous scandal involving the fictitious Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, led by Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, who is currently facing charges for forgery and impersonation. The ICPC will continue to investigate the roles of senior officials involved in the network.
