Athens-Clarke County Police find no evidence of rape in investigation involving University of Georgia student

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department announced Friday that there is no evidence to support the claim that a University of Georgia student was raped in downtown Athens. While the student reported waking up on cardboard boxes near City Hall with a homeless man masturbating behind her, she could not recall any specific sexual acts occurring. Investigators focused on the incident and identified fraudulent financial transaction card activity. Timothy Renard Evans, 49, was charged with financial transaction card theft, financial transaction card fraud, and identity theft. Additionally, Dennis Smith, 40, was arrested and charged with financial transaction card theft and financial transaction card fraud. The police department stated they take all reports of sexual assault seriously and expressed appreciation for the community's cooperation during the investigation.
