The Federal Electricity Commission restores power to Yucatán, Quintana Roo, and Chiapas after transmission line failures

The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) announced the complete restoration of power to the states of Yucatán, Quintana Roo, and Chiapas. The outage occurred on Monday, August 31, and was caused by the failure of two high-voltage transmission lines. Authorities attributed the disruption to acts of vandalism in the transmission structures. Specialized personnel performed maneuvers to restore the electricity supply as quickly as possible. While the CFE established communication with the governments of the three involved entities, the exact number of users affected by the outage has not yet been specified. The CFE reported that the number of power outages during the first seven months of 2026 has decreased by 37% compared to the same period in 2024. The company attributed these improvements to strengthened electrical infrastructure and increased preventive maintenance, including over 7.6 million tree trimming actions and 377,000 insulation replacements.
