Hurricane Marie will bring hazardous surf and light rain to Southern California over the weekend

Hurricane Marie, located hundreds of miles offshore in the Pacific Ocean, will impact Southern California over the weekend and into early next week. The National Weather Service issued coastal flood and high surf advisories starting Saturday morning. Beachgoers are warned of life-threatening rip currents and large waves reaching 10 feet in some locations. The National Weather Service advises those visiting the coast to stay near lifeguard towers and avoid rocks and jetties. Rain is expected to arrive late Saturday and throughout Sunday, primarily focused over Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. Inland areas are forecast to receive less than half an inch of rain, with a low chance of thunderstorms. Temperatures will remain mild, with high temperatures in inland areas topping out in the high 80s. While most of the weather action will bypass Kern County, a corridor of moisture may move across the southern mountains and desert areas toward Las Vegas.
