Powerball Jackpot Reaches $1 Billion Mark Following Strong Ticket Sales and Expansion into the United Kingdom

The Powerball jackpot officially reached the $1 billion mark for the Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2026, drawing, following stronger-than-expected ticket sales and a significant expansion into the United Kingdom. Stephen Durrell, Powerball Product Group Chair and Kansas Lottery Executive Director, noted that the growth reflects an extraordinary level of player interest from both new British players and millions of Americans. While the $1.04 billion jackpot was won by a player in Quincy, Illinois, the prize reset to $20 million for the Saturday, Aug. 15, drawing. The jackpot then climbed to $35 million for the Monday, Aug. 17, drawing, where the winning numbers were 8-15-25-49-65 with a Powerball of 22. Players in the United Kingdom now compete for the same top prize as U.S. participants, though tickets cost approximately $5.32 in the U.K. compared to $2 in the United States. The next drawing is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 19.
