King Harald of Norway's health has deteriorated as he remains hospitalized for a bacterial infection.

King Harald of Norway, the 89-year-old monarch, has seen his health deteriorate over the weekend while undergoing treatment at Oslo's National Hospital. The palace reported that King Harald is currently receiving antibiotics for a bacterial infection in his blood, though his condition remains stable. He was admitted to the hospital a week ago due to fluid retention caused by cortisone treatment for hemolytic anemia, a blood disorder that causes red blood cells to break down faster than the body can replace them. During his absence, Crown Prince Haakon has stepped in as regent to handle the royal duties. The royal family has visited the king's bedside, including Queen Sonja and Princess Astrid. This period of marks a challenging year for the Norwegian royals, which has included a lung transplant for Crown Princess Mette-Marit and the sentencing of her son, Marius Borg Høiby, to four years in prison for two counts of rape. Despite his health issues, King Harald has stated he will not abdicate his throne.
