Novartis reports successful Phase III trials for experimental multiple sclerosis treatment remibrutinib

Novartis reported that its experimental oral drug, remibrutinib, demonstrated superior efficacy and safety in two Phase III trials for relapsing multiple sclerosis. The drug, which functions as a BTK inhibitor, outperformed a leading existing therapy, Aubagio, on all major goals in the studies. Specifically, remibrutinib significantly reduced the annualized rate of relapses in patients with relapsing multiple sclerosis while avoiding the liver-related side effects that have hindered other BTK inhibitors in the market. Novartis plans to pursue global regulatory filings for remibrutinib as a potential future treatment option. The drug is currently being tested for other neurological indications and inflammatory conditions, including hidradenitis suppurativa and food allergies. Analysts suggest the success of remibrutinib could unlock more than $3 billion in peak annual sales for Novartis in the multiple sclerosis market alone.
