Kofi Asante leads Bluecore Energy in securing $50 million seed round to develop floating nuclear power plants

Kofi Asante, the founder and CEO of Bluecore Energy, announced that the company secured a $50 million seed round of funding led by Silverton Partners. This investment follows a $10 million pre-seed round and will be used to fund continued engineering, hardware development, testing, and regulatory work for the company's floating nuclear power plants. Bluecore Energy, headquartered at the Port of Long Beach, is developing a water-cooled small modular reactor mounted on a barge. The system is designed to generate approximately 10 MWe of electrical output continuously, requiring refueling only once every few years. The company aims to provide zero-emission power to ports, AI data centers, and coastal infrastructure. Asante stated that the company is currently working with the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the US Coast Guard to align requirements for marine nuclear technology. The company has already secured its first barge and an electric test reactor at its headquarters. The new capital will also support hiring and manufacturing as the company moves toward commercial deployment.
