President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo criticizes the enduring financial debt of the Fobaproa bank rescue
President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo criticized the economic policies of the neoliberal period, specifically highlighting the ongoing financial burden of the Fobaproa bank rescue initiated during the 1990s. Sheinbaum Pardo noted that while the federal budget allocates $50 million annually for two years to cover a portion of the accumulated interests, the government must still acquire debt to pay off the remaining capital and interest. Sheinbaum Pardo contrasted these past liabilities with her current administration's investment in social programs. She highlighted the dispersal of $6,038 million in Colima to cover welfare programs benefiting over 245,000 people. Sheinbaum Pardo also reviewed infrastructure projects in Colima, including road interventions on the ArmerĂa-Manzanillo highway and the development of 198 new IMSS Well-being clinics scheduled to begin in January 2027.
