Nvidia and OpenAI Partner with SB Energy to Develop Massive 8-Gigawatt Data Center in Ohio

Nvidia and OpenAI have entered into a strategic partnership with SB Energy to develop the PORTS-Pike Technology Campus, a massive 8-gigawatt data center facility in Pike County, Ohio. Nvidia will provide over $105 billion in financing to secure land, power, and the site shell, while SB Energy will build and own the site under a 20-year lease to OpenAI. The complex will exclusively host Nvidia graphics processing units, potentially generating $150 billion to $200 billion in revenue per generation through 2030. Jensen Huang, the CEO of Nvidia, clarified that the deal does not constitute circular investing, as Nvidia will only pay for portions of the lease and power payments. The administration announced the redevelopment of the federal site at the former Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant to support American AI infrastructure. The project is expected to create 35,000 construction jobs during its six-year buildout and 2,500 long-term operating jobs. OpenAI is also providing $84 million in Codex credits to Ohio college students to support local community investment.
