Nvidia Confirms Pausing Parts of New Financing Program to Support AI Cloud Companies
Nvidia confirmed it has paused parts of a financing program designed to help AI cloud companies afford its high-cost chips. The initiative, introduced less than two months ago, offered credit support to smaller firms in exchange for a share of their revenue and the ability for Nvidia to rent back unused compute capacity. The decision follows a period of high demand and a recent record-breaking fiscal second quarter where revenue jumped 106% to $96.2 billion. While the company remains a leader in the AI space, some employees expressed concern that the financing model could draw antitrust scrutiny due to the level of control Nvidia sought over its customers. Early in the program, the company reportedly irritated some potential partners by requiring customers to rent chips only to approved clients. An Nvidia spokesperson stated that the broader business model remains in place and continues to evolve. The company aims to balance its growth with the need to avoid regulatory complexity while maintaining its strong position in the hardware market.
