NVIDIA Partners with Eight Australian Companies to Build 2 Gigawatts of AI Computing Capacity by 2027
NVIDIA is collaborating with eight Australian cloud and data center partners to expand the nation's AI computing capacity. The administration announced that the partnership aims to build up to 2 gigawatts of AI computing capacity by 2027, which would more than double Australia's current load of 1.6 gigawatts. The expansion involves the use of NVIDIA DSX, a full-stack AI factory platform. Participating companies include Firmus, CDC, NEXTDC, and AirTrunk, among others. These facilities are designed to support growing demand for AI models, applications, and autonomous agents. The project will require significant infrastructure development to support high-density AI workloads. While the expansion offers increased local access to accelerated computing, it also places pressure on national electricity grids and water supplies. The success of the buildout depends on the ability of Australia to develop power infrastructure quickly enough to meet the ambitious 2-gigawatt target.
