President Abelardo de la Espriella confirms 20 deaths during military operation against FARC dissidents in Guaviare
President Abelardo de la Espriella confirmed that the number of deaths resulting from a military operation against a Central High Command front of the former FARC in the Guaviare department reached 20. The operation, which targeted a dissident camp in rural El Retorno, resulted in the deaths of three minors who were caught in the bombing. Major Willy Rodríguez of San José del Guaviare stated that the military actions were necessary to reclaim territory from the irregular groups that had gained confidence and expanded across the department. These groups had exerted pressure and extortions on the local population. The offensive has forced some irregular structures to retreat into deeper forested areas. While some rural communities expressed concern over the intensity of the military actions, there have been no reports of displacement toward municipal centers yet.
