Upper Pottsgrove Police Officer Sean Farrell Charged with Voluntary Manslaughter for Fatal Shooting of Glenwood Pysher IV

Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele announced that Cpl. Sean Farrell of the Upper Pottsgrove Township Police Department faces a charge of voluntary manslaughter for the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Glenwood Pysher IV. The incident occurred on August 23 when Pysher, who was unarmed and had his hands in the air, was shot twice in the chest by Farrell. Investigators determined that Pysher was walking to a friend's house when he mistakenly entered the wrong residence and startled the homeowners. Farrell arrived on the scene and commanded Pysher to drop to the ground. Body-worn camera footage shows Pysher complying with the commands while walking toward the officer. However, Farrell allegedly told a colleague that Pysher charged him while screaming, though the video does not show this behavior. District Attorney Steele noted that Farrell had less-than-lethal options, such as a Taser, which he did not use. Because Pysher was not a threat and was at a safe distance, the shooting was deemed an illegal use of deadly force. Farrell turned himself in and was released on $7,500 bail, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for September 10.
