Israel gave the United Kingdom 30 days to close its consulate in East Jerusalem as a retaliatory measure for London's plan to impose trade restrictions on Israeli goods. The administration announced that the move follows the United Kingdom's intention to ban all Israeli products produced in the occupied West Bank. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar stated that the British move was morally distorted and constituted blatant interference in the affairs of a sovereign state. British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband expressed disappointment with the decision but maintained his stance on the UK's actions, citing Israel's unlawful settlements and the alleged ethnic cleansing of Palestinians by extremist settlers. In addition to the consulate closure, Israel barred 12 British politicians from entering the country and prohibited the United Kingdom from sent training to the Palestinian Authority's security forces in the West Bank. Israel did not announce similar punishments for Canada or France, despite their commitment to join the UK's trade ban.
