Ryan Bassham faces first-degree murder charges following deadly explosion at his marijuana extraction facility

Ryan Bassham was charged with two counts of first-degree murder following a deadly explosion at his marijuana extraction facility, Solos Extracts, in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. The blast occurred at approximately 1:14 a.m. on August 27, damaging at least 25 nearby businesses and partially tearing the roof from the building. Two employees of Ryan Bassham, Michael Newman and Stephen Scott, were killed in the explosion. While Stephen Scott was found dead at the scene, Michael Newman was critically injured and later died at the hospital. Prosecutors believe the employees were manufacturing hazardous chemicals that caused the blast. Ryan Bassham turned himself in to the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office on August 30 and was released after posting a $2 million bond. Following his release, Ryan Bassham was arrested again on August 31 by the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics for operating a separate unlicensed marijuana facility near Kellyville. He faces additional charges of aggravated trafficking and manufacturing of a controlled and dangerous substance, as well as possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
