OpenAI and over 100 tech giants issue a joint warning to prioritize cybersecurity in the age of AI.

OpenAI and more than 100 other companies, including Microsoft, Anthropic, and Google, signed a letter on Thursday calling for a decisive shift in cybersecurity priorities. The group of 116 entities warned that current security measures are insufficient to combat increasingly sophisticated AI-enabled attacks. The letter emphasized that there is a 'limited window' to strengthen defenses before AI-enabled threats become more widespread and sophisticated. To address these vulnerabilities, the signatories urged organizations to utilize a mix of low-cost and frontier AI models to bolster defenses. They specifically highlighted the need for coordinated government funding to improve security for under-resourced critical infrastructure, such as hospitals and water treatment plants. The letter also called on AI developers to provide responsible model access and hands-on support to these essential services. While the group includes many of the companies that have built the technology, they are seeking to leverage AI to solve the security problems created by the AI they helped create.
