OpenAI reaches $1 billion annualized revenue run rate for its advertising business within 200 days of launch

OpenAI announced that its advertising business has reached a $1 billion annualized revenue run rate. This milestone was achieved in less than 200 days after the company began testing ads within its ChatGPT chatbot in the United States. The advertising platform is now available in more than 40 countries, with self-service access launching across India, Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa on Monday. The company stated that advertising is one of its diversified business models, alongside consumer subscriptions, enterprise offerings, and usage-based APIs. ChatGPT Ads are available for both the free tier and Go subscribers. The company noted that ads are clearly labeled and do not influence the answers provided by the chatbot. Furthermore, advertisers do not have access to users' private conversations. The advertising business grew from an annual run rate of $100 million in April to $1 billion in roughly four months. The administration announced that the platform will continue to expand into more markets and introduce additional formats, objectives, and measurement capabilities.
