Judge Imposes Prison Measure on Farc Dissident Alexander Dáz Mendoza

A judge of control of guarantees has imposed a preventive prison measure against Alexander Dáz Mendoza, the head of the State Major of Blocks and Front, a dissident group of the Farc. The measure was requested by the National General Prosecutor’s Office, which imputed Dáz Mendoza as an absent person on August 4th for various crimes including homicide, kidnapping, and forced disappearance. Investigation shows Dáz Mendoza issued orders for criminal acts and illicit resource management in Meta, Guaviare, Caquetá, and Huila. He is allegedly linked to the homicides of six Peace Agreement signatories between 2023 and 2025, and the forced disappearance of a merchant in Castillo, Meta. He is also related to the illicit recruitment of a 14-year-old girl in Garzón, Huila, who was trained in military actions until March 2026. The decision follows the failure of Dáz Mendoza to attend several summons. The National General Prosecutor’s Office reactivated capture orders for 46 major figures of various armed groups, including Dáz Mendoza and his girlfriend Diana Rey Rodríguez, as part of a dismantling of the 'total peace' policy. This move has raised concerns among human rights organizations regarding potential increased armed confrontation in the Catatumbo region.
