Royal Caribbean cancels Alaska cruise on Serenade of the Seas after passengers board the vessel in Vancouver

Royal Caribbean canceled a seven-night Alaska cruise aboard the Serenade of the Seas after approximately 1,700 passengers had already boarded the ship in Vancouver. The voyage was originally scheduled to depart on August 30, but was delayed to September 1 due to technical issues requiring maintenance. Passengers were invited to board the vessel early to use it as a hotel while repairs were conducted. However, the cruise line announced that the repairs were not completed in time, forcing the cancellation of the sailing. Royal Caribbean Group issued a statement apologizing for the inconvenience and noted that repairs are now finished. Impacted guests received a full refund of their cruise fare, a future cruise credit worth 100 percent of the fare, and reimbursement for eligible flight-change fees. The Serenade of the Seas resumed its scheduled sailing on September 6. The vessel is now preparing for a series of cruises to the Mexican Riviera and Baja California departing from San Diego in early October.
