Alexander Ferguson and Casey Flynn Melia found dead after midnight canoe trip in Tomales Bay

Alexander Ferguson, a 37-year-old Pacifica Planning Commission member, and 36-year-old Casey Flynn Melia were found dead on Sunday after an overnight canoeing trip in Tomales Bay. The pair left a campsite around midnight on Saturday to view the bay's bioluminescence. When they failed to return the following morning, a search and rescue mission was launched by multiple agencies, including the Coast Guard and the National Park Service. First responders located Ferguson unresponsive in the water near Toms Point. He was transported to Bodega Bay in Sonoma County, where he was pronounced dead. The National Park Service later recovered the body of Casey Flynn Melia near Hog Island. He was taken to Sacramento Landing and pronounced dead. Authorities are currently investigating the cause and manner of death for both men. A forensic post-mortem examination and toxicology testing are scheduled for this week. Both men were wearing life jackets during the trip.
