Matt Bradley and NBC News team attacked by masked Israeli settlers in the West Bank
Matt Bradley and a four-person NBC News team were attacked and injured by masked Israeli settlers while reporting in the Palestinian town of Jalud, near Nablus. The team was interviewing Aida Ahmed Abdullah, a 51-year-old woman who had been driven from her home by settlers. As the crew walked down a hill toward her house, a gray car with Israeli license plates reversed up the hill. At least four men with covered faces jumped out of the vehicle and hit the crew and Abdullah with sticks and rocks. Matt Bradley was hit twice in the arm and received treatment at a clinic. Aida Ahmed Abdullah was rendered unconscious by the attack and was taken for medical care by the Red Crescent. Three other members of the news team were also injured and treated. Israeli security forces reported that dozens of rioters had barricaded themselves inside a Palestinian home while residents were inside. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the violence, describing the acts as criminal and blaming a handful of rioters who violate the law. The attack occurred during a period of increased settler violence in the West Bank, where 76 Palestinians were allegedly killed by Israeli forces or settlers between January 1 and January 24.
