Pasadena residents express outrage after a mail carrier allegedly attacked and injured a popular neighborhood peacock named Sugar.

A mail carrier in Pasadena, California, allegedly attacked a well-known white peacock named Sugar on Tuesday afternoon. Video footage shows the carrier throwing liquid at the bird, hurling a rock at it, and eventually hitting it with a club or stick. The peacock, which has been a neighborhood fixture for several years, was seen flopping around before collapsing in the street. Witnesses, including Gina Davis and Gwendolyn Thornton, noted that Sugar is a friendly bird that often follows the mail carrier. However, residents expressed disappointment that the bird was harmed despite not being a nuisance at the time of the incident. The Pasadena Humane Wildlife Center is currently caring for Sugar, who sustained minor wounds and swelling but has no broken bones. Kevin McManus, the public relations and communications director at Pasadena Humane Wildlife Center, stated that the bird's prognosis is good. The United States Postal Service is reviewing the facts of the incident, noting that employees are expected to conduct themselves professionally. Pasadena Humane Animal Control is investigating the incident and seeking additional footage from the public.
