NBCUniversal raises prices for Peacock streaming service across all monthly and annual plans
NBCUniversal has increased the monthly and annual subscription fees for its Peacock streaming service, effective August 18 for new and returning subscribers. The Select plan, which includes library content but no movies or sports, rose from $7.99 to $8.99. The Premium plan with ads moved from $10.99 to $12.99, and the Premium Plus ad-free plan increased from $16.99 to $19.99. These price hikes follow the streaming service's first-ever profitable quarter, where it reached 48 million subscribers. The administration announced that the price changes are intended to help the service remain competitive and deliver unique content across all genres. However, executives noted that profitability may vary by quarter depending on the timing of sports schedules and live events. The service continues to make significant investments in live sports, including an 11-year deal for NBA games and rights for Sunday Night Football and the Premier League.
