The decision was reached during the last ordinary session of the current legislative recess period, with 26 votes in favor, five against, and five abstentions. Opposition representatives from the Pan, PRI, and MC parties criticized the fast-track legislative process, claiming it lacked transparency and lacked a significant cause for the resignation. Senator Carolina Viggiano denounced the move as a constitutional violation, suggesting the resignation was a reward for Mñica Soto backing the judicial election process used by the ruling party. The ruling party officials stated that the institution can continue to functioning effectively with five out of seven magistrates remaining, following the resignation of Janine Otálora last year. The Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Power serves as the highest authority for resolving electoral disputes and protecting political-electoral rights, with its members now designated through popular vote following the 2024 judicial reform.
